Teacher's Picks--Books about STEAM

Hi everyone. Welcome to the STEAM station. My name is Samare Moazeni .One of my favorite hobbies is encouraging children to be good problem solvers. I believe every single child has a great capacity to solve problems in a different way. I love to indirectly get children's' attention to the science, math, engineering part of any experience in the class and I always consider that in my class curriculum.

Here are some interesting books which I found helpful so both children and teachers can have fun during STEAM activities.

As a STEAM instructor I strongly suggest "Maker Genius" . This book includes great photos to get children's' attention and has step by step instructions to make it easier for everyone to follow. One of my favorite parts of the book is the section called "TRY THIS". It gives extra, fun challenges in order for children to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts.

I like this book because it does a great job of teaching children the foundations of sorting items based on their attributes. It has great pictures to capture children's attention and continually adds on different layers of challenges in order to teach kids fully. What I really like about the book is it starts with comparing one attribute of an item, but transitions to allow children to solve sorting problems of higher complexity.

About the writer:

Samare (Leyla) Moazeni has been teaching early child education for 7 years. She has a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and is currently working in JCC, Los Gatos as an Early Childhood Teacher and STEAM Instructor.
